Time and Work

  1. If a person can do a work in 'x' days, then, he does a work of '1/x' in 1 day.
  2. If 'A' can do a piece of work in 'a' days and 'B' can do the same work in 'b' days. Then, 'A' and 'B' can combinedly do the same work in 'ab/(a+b)' days.
  3. If 'A' can do a piece of work in 'a' days, 'B' can do the same work in 'b' days and 'C' can do the same work in 'c' days. Then, 'A', 'B' and 'C' can combinedly do the same work in abc/(ab+bc+ca) days.

Solved Problems

1. A can do a piece of work in 16 days and B in 24 days. They take the help of C and three together finish the work in 6 days. If the total remuneration for the work is Rs. 400. The amount (in rupees) each will receive, in proportion, to do the work is: [SSC, 2013]

(A) A:150, B:100, C:150
(B) A:100, B:150, C:150
(C) A:150, B:150, C:100
(D) A:100, B:150, C:100

Ans: (A)
A does more work than B. Therefore, A gets more remuneration than B. Such condition is satisfied only by option A.
